Bitmap graphic is a large grid made up of smaller squares (pixels). If you put colour in each square you can build up an image square by square . Bitmap is how a telly/monitor works they both use pixels. To do this you set the resolution ie: how many dots tall by how many dots across. Pixels are short for picture element. , this is a single point in a graphic image. The more dots the better the resolution.
Bitmap format : programmes that use bit map format are Adobe photoshop, corel photopaint, macromedia fireworks, paint shop pro.
Bitmap image formats are: Tiff, Bmp, PICT, GIF, Jpeg.
Vectors: Vector graphics consist of points, lines and curves filled with solid gradient colours when combined can form complex objects. programmes that use vector formats : EPS , adobe illustrator, Adobe freehand.
Photo shop : graphics editing programme, widely used for photo re-touching / airbrushing , used to design interface layouts and individual graphics.
